Copyright
What is Copyright?
Copyright protects original literary, dramatic, musical or artistic works as well as original databases, sound recordings, films, computer program code and the like. The duration of copyright protection depends on the jurisdiction and the type of work involved. In many cases, copyright protection can last for up to 70 years after the death of the author. For example, in Ireland, literary works are protected by copyright for 70 years after the death of the author whereas sound recordings are only protected for up to 50 years after the sound recording was made or after it was first made lawfully available.
Copyright is not a registrable right. Therefore, you automatically obtain copyright protection by virtue of creating the work. You do not have to apply to the government in order to register your copyright. All copyright works should be marked appropriately and should include the copyright symbol ©, the name of the copyright owner and the date of creation of the work.
