Michael O’Connor is a European Patent Attorney, Community Trade Mark Attorney, Community Design Attorney, Irish Patent Attorney and Irish Trade Mark Attorney.
He possesses a degree in Electronic Engineering from Dublin City University and a post graduate certificate in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Manchester. Michael has over ten years experience in the profession and before founding O’Connor Intellectual Property, he was a partner in one of the largest firms of patent and trade mark attorneys in the country.
Michael has extensive experience drafting, filing and prosecuting Irish, UK, European, International, US, Asian and Australasian patent applications for inventions in a wide range of disparate fields including software, electronics, telecommunications, mechanical, medical devices, cleantech, teaching tools/learning aids, business methods and nanotechnology. Michael has a particular interest and expertise in protecting computer implemented inventions. In addition to filing and prosecuting applications, Michael has experience representing clients during Opposition and Appeal Proceedings at the European Patent Office and at Oral Proceedings during Opposition, Appeal and Examination proceedings at the European Patent Office.
Michael has been invited to speak on a range of intellectual property topics to a number of professional organisations, associations and Academic Institutions including the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM), Science Foundation Ireland, University College Cork, University College Dublin, Waterford Institute of Technology, Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC), Cleantech Ireland and Irish Software Innovation Network (ISIN). Furthermore, he has contributed to a number of published articles in a wide range of publications. Michael is the current chairman of the Patent Laws Committee of the Association of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys (APTMA).
