Patent Searching
We strongly recommend that you carry out a patent search as part of the process of completing the Invention Disclosure Form. If nothing else, this may provide you with a useful insight into your competitors patent portfolios.
The European Patent Office operate a free search facility (http://ep.espacenet.com/) that allows you to search through patent applications and granted patents from around the world using keyword(s) and using applicant/inventor details. We suggest that you carry out a keyword search using keywords relevant to your invention and an applicant/inventor search using your closest competitors’ details. We would also suggest that you perform a combination of keyword and applicant/inventor searches if a large number of documents are returned under the keyword or the applicant/inventor searches alone. You should review the most relevant documents unearthed in your search and provide us with no more than the three most relevant documents for review. If possible, it would be useful to provide a brief summary of the content and relevance of each document provided as well as identifying the differences between your invention and what is disclosed in the prior art document.
No obligation on either party
